What’s my Risk for Tornadoes in the Triad?

One of the most terrifying experiences in elementary school were tornado drills. Pile into a hallway and crouch down and wait for the tearing winds to suck you away. Thankfully, they were always just drills, and we never had to perform the maneuvre for real.
Others aren’t so lucky, and preparation and knowledge about your risk can save your life! FEMA put together a map showing what your risk for tornado damage and loss is by county; you can find it here: https://hazards.fema.gov/nri/tornado
It’s also important to know the warning signs if the improbable does happen and a tornado visits the Triad again. Look out for yellow clouds, wall clouds, any whirling or twirling in the sky or on the ground, and a roaring freight train sound, and make sure emergency alerts are set up on your phone.
It’s better to pray for the best and prepare for the worst than to only do the former and neglect the latter.
